Stephan Brigidi was born in Providence and educated at Providence College and Rhode Island School of Design.  A widely published artist and teacher, his work has been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe.  A Fulbright Hays Fellow and a MacDowell Colony fellow, Stephan has also been the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Universities of Hawaii and Connecticut, the Unicolor Corp., and the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts.  Brigidi’s work is included in numerous museum collections including:  The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris; and the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Desighn.  In 1991 Brigidi collaborated with the poet Robert Bly on Angels of Pompeii, which was published by Ballantine Books, New York.  A second book of portraits, Remarkable People, was published by the Sunningdale Foundation in 1995.  An active supporter of environmental causes, Stephan is the president of Save Bristol Harbor, an orgainization which is committed to preserving the health, safety and integrity of Bristol’s coastal waters and harbor areas.  Stephan Brigidi makes his home and studio in Bristol, RI, with his wife Julia and their son Gian-Stefano.
