the portrait in photography - stephan brigidi

The study of the human subject with an understanding of what constitutes a portrait beyond likeness and identity is the direction of this class. The purpose of the portrait and its potential to convey the subject’s character influence the artist’s approach. Participants will observe a brief history of photographic portraits and be given outside assignments while practicing with studio lighting and camera techniques. Participants may range from beginners to advanced. Both film and digital cameras will be welcomed with weekly critiques and evaluations with a work-inprogress portfolio resulting.

Generally held during the summer months. Dates TBD for 2008

Tuition $475.  Participants are required to have their own cameras.

photojournalism - kris craig

Photographs are most capable of telling stories and the photojournalist is charged with a “fair” assessment of such stories. This is one of the most specialized aspects of photography: to work quickly and responsively as well as thoroughly in reporting a situation or event. Deadlines with little luxury of time are among the many demands of this field. Participants will hear from several experienced photojournalists who are charged to communicate visually and often to provide the text for public viewing and understanding. These weekly sessions will provide assignments as well as examples for all participants who are curious about photojournalism.

Generally held during the summer months. Dates TBD for 2008

Tuition $475.  Participants are required to have their own cameras.

photographing children & pets - julie brigidi

Certainly one of the more challenging and demanding of photographic subjects who do not easily take directions, rather to explore the spontaneity and natural beauty of children and animals. Participants will be exposed to studio as well as outdoor location situations and respond with their own photographs of young people and animals. Critiquing sessions will be a regular routine towards building a strong portfolio of prints. Digital or film cameras may be used.

Generally held during the summer months. Participants are required to have their own cameras.
